Brother Ricky Schroeder

Growing up in the 80′s, I used to watch the show Silver Spoons. I found out today that the star of that show, Ricky Schroeder, is now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). (I am also a member of the LDS Church, for those who don’t know).

Here’s a recent article about him and some aspects of his faith. His wife Andrea said a couple things that I endorse:

”God has (made) us with this infinite potential … it’s beyond our comprehension,” she said.

Instead of comparing their abilities to others’, people need to see ”God as our gauge … because we’re all created as unique individuals,” she said.

Looking to God as the primary source of our love and our identity is important. The opinions and judgments of men and women may fluctuate, but our Heavenly Father is constant. He is always waiting to love us.

Sean,
enjoyed your post. My sister Bonnie and her husband Alan were good friends with Andrea and had a part in Rick’s fellowshipping. She said when he first started coming to church he’d bring his Coke can and sit on the front row. Really enjoyed the quotes. I think their family lives now in Scottsdale!

Julie,

That’s great – he probably couldn’t help feeling the spirit of it all, sitting on the front row (even with his Coke can…Mom may want to know if it was Diet Coke!?!).

I really like those quotes from his wife too. If we could stop comparing ourselves to others, life would be a lot more fun!

Jana told me she has a friend who knew the Schroeders a while ago in Scottsdale. His Wikipedia entry indicates they now live in California.

Hope you guys had a great time in Oceanside!

Ahhh…Silver Spoons. Who wouldn’t love a show about a kid who has arcade games in has house and a dad that designs games for a living (and has a hot girlfriend)? That pilot writes itself.

My favorite was the episode where Ricky see the accountant’s cherry-red porsche in the garage and thinks it’s his birthday present, then can’t be satisfied with the weight set his day actually bought him.

It was like they took a page of out of my own childhood and put it up on the screen.

Wow Shane/Mack…we’ve really hit the big time now that a major outlet like 301NIB is commenting here. Thanks for stopping by.

Are you back in Wisconsin now?
