President Hinckley’s funeral was held yesterday. I was able to watch nearly all of it live on TV. Elder Tingey appropriately thanked the Hinckley family for sharing not only the life, but also the funeral of their father and grandfather with the Church and the world.
There were wonderful words, touching tributes, and beautiful music. My favorite musical touch was the closing song, “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need”. This song has has been one of my favorites for over a year now. You can hear a 30-second sample of it by clicking here.
The song includes beautiful words and music (harp, and especially flute and oboe add a special touch to the song), and a heavenly ending - “No more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home”. The last phrase is sung oh so gently by men’s voices, almost like a lullaby. To me, it was a fitting ending to the services for a godly man.
Oh, and the CD on which you can find that song is called “Consider the Lilies”. I can hardly imagine a more beautiful collection of songs…I highly recommend it as peaceful medicine for the soul.
